There will be summer classes held at both Inverness and Brookwood Forest for summer karate classes. When I get everything straight I will post another blog and email with all of the information. We will have a registration date during karate class in May, so you guys won't have to worry about doing it in the summer. I especially want to stress that if your child is a yellow belt and up, they need this extra training because there will be a testing offered at the end of the summer in July. Not only would your child miss out on receiving a new belt, but when they do return to karate, they will spend several months "catching up" to where they are at now. In the summer, with continuous training, there will be no "catching up". I look forward to seeing everyone there!

We have 2 contests going within my two classes...and we have one contest going on the website.

The 2 contests going at Brookwood Forest and Inverness are this:
Kata Contest
To be eligible for the prize, all students must know their katas up to the rank that they are currently holding. The first person to complete their katas will receive their next weapon free, second place is having their next testing paid for, and the third one is a free karate t-shirt. The last day of the contest is Thursday, April 16th for Inverness and Friday, April 17th for Brookwood Forest.

Weapons Contest
Same rules apply but the dates are different:
Thursday, April 30th for Inverness and Wednesday, April 29th for Brookwood Forest

To enter the website contest, your child must write (with your help if need be) a 100 word or less essay on why your child loves karate. To enter, you go to www.ikfkarate.com and enter the site. There is a link that you can click on at the top of the page that says "Why I love Karate Contest". Click on it and click on "Entry Form". Then submit the information. If for some reason you guys would like me to enter your information for you, just send in your child's essay to karate class and I will go home and enter it. I don't mind, and I know it would be easier on you guys! Good luck

Testing for Inverness will be on Thursday, January 15 at 4 PM.
Testing for BWF will be on Friday, January 16 at either 3:15 or 3:30 PM.

Permission slips will be sent out on Tuesday - Inverness
Wednesday - BWF

Please return by testing day including your check (written to IKF) or cash.

Those who are not testing and are NOT a 1st kyu brown belt can do one of two things:
1) send a note saying they are not testing and train
2) take the day off

The reason for that is because those that show up without a permission slip will automatically be given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to test. Please note also, belts and certificates will be given out the following class, but CANNOT be given out if the testing fee is not paid.

Hope you guys enjoy your holidays...we will begin karate classes as soon as the kids come back

Order Forms will be sent out today for Brookwood Forest. Anyone interested in purchasing weapons, sparring gear, t-shirts, or sweatshirts for Christmas, be sure to send you order form in ASAP.

Also, please note that I will be helping host the karate camp a week from today. This is a great time for your children to get extra practice in while you can spend the day shopping! I encourage those who will not be out of town that week to come. All ranks are invited.

Starting October, we will begin weapons and sparring. I am going to include what weapons each rank will need so that everyone is on the same page. As far as sparring is concerned, white belts do not have to have sparring gear, but purple belts and up should.

Weapons:

White, Purple, Blue Belts - Foam chucks
Yellow, Yellow w/Black stripe - Bo
Green, Green w/Black stripe - Wooden chucks and tonfas
Brown, Brown w/Black stripe - Sais

If you need to get any weapons, please let me know...all weapons MUST come through me, as part of our rules and regulations. The same is for sparring gear as well. All sparring gear MUST have the International Karate logo, and cannot be bought off the internet. This is also part of our rules and regulations.

For those who want to get sparring gear, I am going to sell it at a reduced rate for the month of October. Please contact me if you're interested.

Buddy Day will be this Friday...Your child should get a slip to give to their friends on Wednesday.

Testing will be on Friday, November 7th from 3:15-4:15. Please note that there will not be any Advanced class that day, in case testing runs over. I will send home more information 2 weeks prior.

Here are two updates for Inverness....

Buddy Day will be next Tuesday, because I am having trouble printing off the Buddy Day slips...

Testing will be on Thursday, November 6 from 4-5 PM. I will hand out more information 2 weeks prior.

I will be sending out slips of paper to everyone on the Buddy Day we are going to have next week. If your child gets a friend to sign up, he/she will receive either a free prize or weapon, depending.

Also, I will be choosing Student of the Month for both schools the last day of class in September. If your child is the chosen Student, he/she will receive a prize and have his/her picture put on my webpage. Also, there will be a drawing for good attendance. That person will also receive a prize. I will be typing up some weapons rank guidelines and costs, also the days of the testings.

To Inverness and Brookwood Forest students and parents:

I want to thank all of you for having such great behavior on your first day. I was a little worried about the chaos, but every child has done so well. I'm definitely excited to be your karate instructor this year, and please note that I wish to receive plenty of feedback from everyone. Later on this weekend, I will be posting a newsletter for each school with important testing, equipment, and class information. I will be sure to send an email out to everyone so that all can read this newsletter. The newsletter will be sent once a month. And once again, thank you everyone for making the first day of karate class run so smoothly. I look forward to seeing you guys again this week!

It seems our anticipated shipment has not been sent yet. I have been given total confidence that we should receive it either on Friday or Monday. So Inverness will receive theirs next Tuesday, and Brookwood Forest will receive theirs next Wednesday. I really want to apologize for this delay, because I know we have some anxious students out there that want your uniforms! But we will get them, I promise!!
